The monuments and cultural heritage sites of Volga Bulgaria, the Golden Horde and Kazan Khanate periods have been studied by researchers in the Republic of Tatarstan and beyond its borders. The researchers conduct large-scale complex reconstruction of the history of the population and states across the Volga-Urals starting from the early Middle Ages to the Modern Times on the basis of a synthesis of archaeological, ethno-historical, physico-anthropological and natural-geographical methods. This innovative approach offers new opportunities for the understanding of the Middle Volga region and the neighbouring territories as a key political, trade, economic, cultural and spiritual centre which influenced the historical processes of the entire Eurasian continent for several centuries.The lecture will present the results of scientific research by Tatarstan archaeologists and selected archaeometric studies of metal artifacts.
