　　报告摘要：

　　Many histories can be written of the so-called “barefoot doctors”, health workers who became symbols of improving primary medical care in the countryside during the years of the Cultural Revolution. Emily Graf emphasizes the importance of including cultural histories of barefoot doctors into their analysis, arguing that visual and literary materials were key in the making of the barefoot doctor. By presenting multiple historical approaches, she shows how barefoot doctors resist being written as a part of a history of natural sciences and argues that the change of perspective from a history of science, technology and medicine to histories of knowledge is helpful in understanding barefoot doctors. A history of knowledge better allows us to go beyond the dualities of Chinese vs. Western medicine, or, as in the case of the official rhetoric that promoted barefoot doctors, of “combining Chinese and Western medicine(e.g.中西医结合治疗). Such approaches ultimately perpetuate a division between the two. Chinese and Western, instead of seeing them as products of multiple entangled histories of medicine.
