唐代白居易编撰的《白氏六帖》三十卷，是现存“唐代四大类书”之一。《白氏六帖》之“医”“药”“疾”“疾疫”“兽医”等部，收录了唐中期以前大量的医学文献史料及相关医药学知识，包括医人的医德与医术、药物学知识、疾病学知识、瘟疫知识和兽医学知识等内容。该书文献来源极其广泛，包含儒家经学文献、史地文献、诸子著作、政府律令、地理、辞书、诗赋、文集等，充分反映了类书中医学知识的政治教化作用和在科举考试中的应用。由于书中征引的唐以前部分史籍、医籍已散佚，所以《白氏六帖》中辑录的医学文献史料成为辑补、复原、校勘唐以前医学著作和研究唐以前中国医学史的珍贵资料。

The “Bai Shi Liu Tie (Bai’s Six Categories)” in 30 volumes compiled by BAI Juyi in the Tang Dynasty is one of the four existing major reference books in its time. The “Doctor”, “Medicine”, “Disease”, “Plague”, “Veterinarian” and other sections in the book documented a large number of historical medical literature and related knowledge prior to the mid-Tang Dynasty, including medical virtues and skills of doctors, and knowledge about medicines, diseases, plagues and the veterinary. The literature sources are extremely extensive, involving Confucian classics, history and geography, works of sage scholars, government decrees, dictionaries, poetry, and essay collections, etc., which fully re?ects the political and educational role of medical knowledge in reference book and its application in imperial examinations. Since some of the pre-Tang historical and medical works cited in this book have been lost, the medical literature and historical materials compiled in Bai’s Six Categories have become valuable data for compiling, restoring and collating pre-Tang medical works and researching Chinese medical history before the Tang Dynasty.
