Wang Jilie played an important role in the reformation of the educational system in the late Qing dynasty. He was employed as a physics teacher in some official schools. He translated A Physics Textbook for Modern Times from Japanese, and later edited The Republican Era Textbook Series: Physics in the early Republic of China. The two books had some influence during that period. Based on some original material, this article examines the formation process of these two books, their contents and characteristics. Moreover, it attempts to elaborate the evolution of physics textbooks in the first dozen years of the 20th century. |
